Changing controlling area currency after go-live ?

Does anyone know if its possible to change the controlling area currency
after having been "live" for a while ? Is it possible to copy the live
client config then change the COAr currency and then copy the transaction
data to the new production client.
Please let me have your thoughts or ideas. We're using v 3.0f. Thanks.
