Batch Management on SAP R/3

We are implementing PP-PI and I we are managing all our products in batches
On SAP R/3 release 3.0 D, there are 3 levels to manage
batches(client,plant,material) but the
automatic batch numbering is at client Level.We are using batches at
Material level and the automatic batch numbering becomes inconsistent with
our need.
I would like to know if by any chance a company meets this problem and how
it has been soved(user exit or release 3.1)
Another point
Sap R/3 allocate batches automatically only at good receipt.We allocatte
batches at process order creation
If any one has also meet this requirement,I will be very interrested by
hearing his solution.
Well,we are implementing MM/PP-PPI/FI/CO for pharmaceuticals departement.So
if any one has questions
I will be pleased to try to answer to questions and share experiences.
Sap R/3 is entering in the market of pharmaceuticals but is not 100 percent
perfect yet
So all experiences are welcome
