I know that if you go through the SAP brochures, there is a lot of stuff
about objects and object-enabled.
But if you look at SAP's architecture, they will never be able to do
anything which is close to object-oriented.
Keep in mind,object-orientation is not just a programming language and
programming approach. Object orientation is a completely different design
methodology and ABAP/4 (I wouldn't even call it a development
environment) is a traditional approach to structured progamming and
doesn't include any elements of object orientiation, even if the
brochures say different things.
Look behind the architecture of SAP R/3 and you will realize,that the
advantage of beeing the first in the client-server arena will be the
biggest problem for SAP in the next 2 years because of it's old
host oriented environment, which has been "client-serverized".
