I work for a large petrochemical company in the U.S.. My company is
implementing SAP company wide and I am concerned that by integrating
this software, we will lose 30% of the functionallity we _currently_
have. SAP is being thrust upon the different portions of the company
without much input from those entities. For example, configuration for
the refineries will be identical to the configuration for the plastic
facilities. If there are any loses in functionality, the different
groups have to deal with it.
Additionally, I understand Mobil, Dow, and other large companies have
spent up to $1 billion (yes billion with a 'b') to implement SAP. For
spending that type of money, the return will be negligible at best. I
have never seen an accounting system make gasoline or plastic. Can
anyone share a SAP horror story or two with me?
