Please Explain What is SAP?

I am a BSc (Hons) Information Systems for Business degree student on a
placement year working as an analyst in a large multinational company
in the UK.
Having heard of the name 'SAP', and knowing that that I will be
heavily involved in it, I was wondering whether any kind soul would
give me a brief overview, or anything that would help me. Thanks in
anticipation.
