Hi there,
A quick option that you might want to investigate is to use the SAP Material Master language
table, to hold those three types of material texts. This table holds the different translations
of the material master based on language, but what if you were to create 3 new "langauges"?,
say 0, 1, 2. Use language 1 as short text, 2 as medium, 3 as long. Are 40 chars enough for
the texts? Will need config. mods.

You'll also need to modify your SAPScripts/Reports to read the approriate material description.
The SAP table where the languages are held is: MAKT.

To view the MM languages, take the menu path: Mat. Master maintainace -> Extras -> Texts ->
Descriptions.

Just a thought,
Hope I correctly understood your requirement.
