SAP News 6/10/96

R/3 CONSULTANTS -- HOW MUCH ARE YOU WORTH?
The straight dope: depends on who you ask. If you are a salaried
employee of a "Big-Six" consultancy, you can expect to make $50-70K if

you have one year or less experience, $75-95K if you have 1 to 2
years experience, $100-120K if you have 2 to 3 years experience,
$140-160K if you have 3 to 4 years of experience. If you have more
than 4 years of experience, you can command compensation of $175-220K.

If you are an hourly consultant, you can safely negotiate from 55 to
70% of your total billing. I will not bog you down with the math, but

based on a Gartner Group Survey, here are the billing
rates for hourly consultants:

     K-5 (5 years SAP experience) $300-325
     K-4 (4 years SAP experience) $250-275
     K-3 (2-4 years SAP experience) $200-225
     K-2 (1 year SAP experience) $175
     K-1 (<1 year SAP experience) $150

Hourly consulting assignments often provide per-diem and other expense

payments as well. However, there are typically no benefits packages
afforded to hourly consultants.

There is little indication that R/3 compensation is levelling off or
otherwise normalizing. This is still, by far, the most lucrative
segment of the IS spectrum. It is even more so for those
individuals who have practical experience in HR, PP-PI, and QM --
modules that received significant upgrades with the advent of release
3.0. R/3 consultants with these skills can expect compensation
premiums of 10 to 30% more than similarly skilled consultants without
the aforementioned skills.

MORE GOOD NEWS FOR SAP PROFESSIONALS

Information Systems (IS) professionals in highest demand in 1996 will
be those who are knowledgeable in the Internet, client-server
computing, and networking, according to the 1/1 InformationWeek. IS
firms are in search of all Internet experts, especially those who have

experience in security issues and building firewalls. In the client/
server area, C++ programming, development language, and object
programming abilities are also being heavily recruited, as are
workers with knowledge of front-end graphical user interfaces,
relational databases, and help-desk support. SAP R/3 and Lotus Notes
experts will also be in high demand this year, according the
publication.
