this is my medium size (FI,A;,CO,PS,MM,PP,HR; >50 clients) site
experience:
absolute minimum is 486-66 8MB + 25 MB HD
but if ever possible start >= Pentium 90, 16 MB + >100 MB HD
working gets great with Pentium, 32MB >100 MB HD
Note: every buck invested in main memory reduces your cost in
tranquilizers
