I have been running S-Plus on an IBM Thinkpad 755CS, which has a DX4/100
CPU with 8Mb of RAM and a 170Mb drive. It runs fine on this machine as long
as you remember that the bigger the problem, the more swapping will occur,
which slows things down. If you can add more memory, do so, regardless of
what machine you use.
I run S-Plus under OS2 Warp and would not consider running it under MS-Windows.
Since I am used to a UNIX environment in my office, where I use S on a Sparc,
I enjoy being able to use long filenames (among other advantages) under OS/2
instead of the primitive 8.3 filenames that are required if S-Plus is run under
Windows. I am ever hopeful that S-Plus will be ported to OS/2 eventually.
