I've been using S/Splus for 4 years and have taught several students how
to use it. I totally agree with Dave Krantz's generalizations.

A few other points:

1. Not everyone has easy access to the manuals.
2. Not everyone has a nice GUI for the on-line help.
3. With good news-reading skills it is easy to skip articles with
basic questions if you're not inclined to read them.
4. S-news is pretty good right now in not having too many basic questions.
5. Every so often I answer a basic question just to be of service to
the community. It's the least I can do in return for some of the
fine advice I've gotten from s-news.
