Senior Lecturer in Statistics

The Department of Statistics invites applications for the above
position from persons with a PhD or equivalent qualification.
The successful applicant will be expected to make a strong
contribution to the research, teaching and consulting efforts
of the Department.
The University of New South Wales is one of Australia's
leading technological Universities. The School of
Mathematics at UNSW, which comprises the Departments of
Applied Mathematics, Pure Mathematics and Statistics, is
highly successful in Australia in attracting financial support for
research. The Department has active research groups in
analysis of time series, extreme value theory, stochastic
processes, financial modelling statistics, survival analysis,
quality management and statistical computing. Postgraduate
research students may enrol for a Master of Science degree or
a PhD. The Department of Statistics conducts specialist
teaching in Statistics for all undergraduate levels (including
honours) and for a Master of Statistics degree by coursework
and also provides service teaching to undergraduates in several
faculties. Members of the Department are encouraged to
undertake consulting work from inside and outside the
University.
Applications from candidates in any field of statistical science
are invited. Preference may be given to candidates with
strengths in the following areas:
1. Image Analysis
2. Biostatistics, Medical Statistics, Epidemiology
3. Industrial Statistics.
4. Time Series Analysis
All candidates should have sound knowledge of the use of
computing in statistical practice and teaching.
The position is available from July 1, 1995. Salaries are
negotiable according to qualifications and experience but
within the range
Senior Lecturer $50,928 - $58,724
