pop-up menus

I would like to employ pop-up menus in some of my functions.
Using menu() with any combination of X11() or motif(), and the
xrm specifications that I know about, does not give a pop-up.
I could find no useful examples in the documentation.
Any help would be apprciated. Thanks! scw
I am running Splus 3.1 on SGI Indigos, with IRIX 5.2 or 4.0.5F.
