This is another question that has no direct connection with S(plus).
I simply hope to draw upon the broad erudition of the subscribers to
this mailing list.
I have a vague recollection of seeing a discussion (article? section
in a textbook?) on an attempt to compare/distinguish between two
authors on the basis of counts of words of each possible length. (It
***might*** have been sentence length, but I think it was just word
length.) I'm pretty sure that one of the authors was Hemingway; I
think that the other author was Henry James, but I'm not so sure
about that. The surprizing conclusion of the study was that the two
authors could ***not*** be distinguished on this basis.
Have any of you seen anything relating to such a study? Can anyone
supply a reference? Eternal gratitude promised.
