Yes, that change was incorporated in S-PLUS 2000, so is not in the S-PLUS
2000 version of the MASS library. The actual code we used was cleaned up
since the first edition.

Yes, I have. No changes are needed to make.call in S-PLUS 2000.
Beware that you have the 1994 first edition of our book, and are using it
on a 1999 version of the program with the software from the 1999 third
edition, in the special version for S-PLUS 2000. We tested all the
examples from the third and second editions: we did not test those in the
first. (To complicate matters, some of our changes were incorporated
in S-PLUS 2000 while out third edition was in press.)
