 Whenever I give more than a basic answer, I always put a gentle reminder at the end of the message, "Remember to post a summary of replies for the benefit of everyone in the group". For those not familiar with mailing list, this is not obvious. People who are used to dealing with newsgroups, or compustat forums, might not know to do this. Another source of confusion for these people is the way the messages appear in the mailbox. Sometimes a message from the S list server appears as if it is from an individual. Other times a message from an individual might appear as if it is from the mail server because the subject has the [S] in it.
