minimal modifications required to obtain
solutions to demonstration gee problems
in Splus 5.0/5.1 are provided in

http://biosun1.harvard.edu/~carey/ugee5.shar

Extract from README file follows.

[while I have your attention i mention the two
biggest gotchas:
1) program assumes that data are sorted by
cluster id and will not warn if they are not
2) program does not accept data on timing of
observations; working M-dependent structures
assume equidistant obs with monotone missingness

Problem 2) is remedied in YAGS
http://biosun1.harvard.edu/~carey/yags.1515.shar

That also requires modifications to work under
Splus5. one approach to which is indicated
at
http://biosun1.harvard.edu/~carey/ny.shar
this is not a patch but provides changes to
some key functions that must be emulated in
other functions to get the whole system to work...

before too long, fully 5.1 compatible shar files
will be posted for both gee and yags, but as
a) i will be out of town for a few weeks and
b) i am starting to get more requests for ports,
i am offering these partial/partially documented
ports for those who may be interested in using
them at this time. all code provided with
no warranty whatsoever and subject to terms of
GNU public license.

correspondence on these functions should go to
carey@hsph.harvard.edu]

From gee README file
----------------------------------------------------
gee -- solve generalized estimating equations --
an Splus library implementation

README VERSION 4.18 99/06/03

1999 June 3 1635 -- minimal accommodation of Splus 5.0.3
restrictions and extensions for ugee.c, ugee.q,
ugee.h. Installation procedure. I recommend
installation in a safe, isolated directory,
e.g., /home/splib/Gee/

0) set your SHOME environment variable, possibly
via setenv SHOME `Splus SHOME`
1) unpack the shar file
2) Splus CHAPTER # make sure you are running Splus5
3) make # Splus5 EXEC make [also seems to work without the setenv]
4) cat ugee.q | Splus
5) mkdir .Data/.Help
6) cp gee.d .Data/.Help/gee

To use from any Splus v5.0.3 session, assuming above install path
attach("/home/splib/Gee/.Data")

Testing:

cat tests.S | Splus > chk
diff chk testout.5
