Hi...

Just to confirm where we are in the process of changing to a new, improved
project database.

1. To preview the new database, please go to
http://gypsy.mit.edu/fcgi-bin/brlfcgi/brlpdb/index.html
    New/Changed Features include:
    - the database has gone on a diet. Many fields were removed.
    - the top summary page has been re-organized to include the project
notebook, contact, and target date.
    - search pages (such as the Project by Process pages) have an Add button
to allow addition of projects.
    - the Project Information Page should display all the project information.
    - several pages now have a Help button, which is currently linked to
http://web.mit.edu/pm/helppdb/ -- a placeholder for documentation to come.

If you have comments or suggestions, please send them to project-db@mit.edu

2. The Project-db will be shut down next Thursday (July 1). While Miki
expects to have the changes in place and running sometime July 2, we have
allowed ourselves the "fallback" time of the long weekend in case of
problems. By July 6, we expect the operational project database to be up
and running again.

3. At that time, I recommend that people review the information. While we
are expecting to transfer the contents of the current database to the new
one, there may be areas where the information is lacking or incorrect.

4. Still to come:
    - the Help pages
    - Training and documentation
    - corrections to the web pages that access the current database.
    - simplification of the status values

The main change is that the ITLT is taking responsibility for adding and
modifying the project information in the project database. Project leaders
will have the responsibility for maintaining project notebooks, kept
in AFS lockers.

Thanks
mike
