Hello,
At the 2/19 Project Leaders meeting, Bill Cattey reminded me that it is my
action item to call a meeting to resolve our discussion items regarding
SHORT TERM improvements to the Projects Database.
I'd like to suggest that those interested meet Friday 3/5 at 2 in N42-286.
The meeting should not be longer than an hour and a half. A secondary
alternate time is Wednesday 3/10 at 1:30.
These are the outcomes desired:
1) Agree upon the entity-relationship diagram for the data elements. It is
requested that Scott lead this discussion. He and I will try to prepare a
draft and distribute it prior to the meeting.
2) Decide on the fields that will be deleted/added in the near term. There
are currently 22 fields, of which many agree that at least 6 can be
eliminated, with thir data, now. About a half dozen new fields have been
requested. I will distribute a summary of the fields and commentary to date
prior to the meeting. Hopefully, Miki and Bill can have a sense of degree of
difficulty for each as well.
3) Recommend changes to reports. Here are two suggestions. It would be great
if Miki can assess how difficult it would be to add a hypertext link to a
project's home page or notebook on the summary report. Also, all items on
the Modify screen should also appear on the View Project screen. If people
have any other ideas, please let me know and they will be added to the list.
Once again, this focus of this meeting is to decide the short term, tactical
changes to the Projects Database. Make it easier to use and conform to how
people are actually using it. In the process, we will also create material
(e.g. E-R diagrams, recommendations) that may be used by a subsequent
Discovery project to look at our overall project management environment.
So, please RSVP, thanks, Bob
