In recent conversations with Bob Ferrara and Greg Anderson, I have moved
onto the hot seat for "Figure out what we need to do to better publicise
our project status -- probably using the Project Database."
We have known for some time that:
IS is not fully up to speed on doing the activities of project management.
Our collective understanding of how to do project management leaves a
bit to be desired.
The Project Database design and implementation reflects incomplete
understanding, and conflicting ideas.
It is a fair description of reality to say that the Project Database was
an attempt to make us more disciplined at doing project management.
Over time we have gotten a clearer sense of the shortcommings of the
Project Database as a tool, and the shortcommings of ourselves in doing
project management.
Bottom line: I've volunteered to try and begin bridging the gap.
Partly by working on getting people to do project management activities.
Partly by getting new tools in.
Partly by getting little changes made to the Project Database.
The next note I send will be to suggest an idea, and how it can be
played out in the Project Database.
