Look at the numbers and get on ERMX Friday morning!
In other words, what is the availability required? Some of the books are
good, others not so much.
But at least steps are being taken reactively to examine exactly what
was lost.
And, really, the formula was not comprehensive enough to do an "exact"
job on number of DBAs needed.
Well, this can be a tricky one to answer. For example, a metric
suggested by one reader was to measure the number of SQL statements that
are processed successfully.
The author, Joe Celko, is a SQL expert. Now, of course, IDC has
different numbers, but at least they are more similar to Gartner than in
previous years. Well, this is fine if it is limited to only true
problems that might have been caused by the DBA. So the easy assumption
is that Oracle users are migrating from Unix to Linux. However, it does
not excuse the lackadaisical attitude that enabled the data to be stolen
- and exposed to access - in the first place. It was published in
Government Computer News, and the article's intent was to inform
government IT folks about technology and trends related to data
warehousing. If you deal with heterogeneous database implementations
this book will be a great assistance, whether you are a programmer,
consultant, DBA, or technical end user. , in which I discussed the
difficulty of determining the appropriate staffing level for a DBA
group. That should give you some taste for the benefits of relational
database systems over other types. A couple of weeks ago I posted How
Many DBAs? Every now and then I will take the time to post an answer
here on my blog. This sounds more reasonable, at least from the
perspective of the DBA, but I actually think this is much too narrow a
metric for measuring DBAs. In other words, what is the availability
required?
In other words, what is the availability required? Secondly, because the
relational model is based on set theory its accuracy and usefulness have
a basis in mathematics. A residency is an intensive, multi-week work
effort where small teams explore and document product implementation,
integration and operations. So, how does anyone figure out how many DBAs
are needed at their shop?
but here it is any way. The Art of SQL by Stephane Faroult - a guide to
SQL written using the approach of "The Art of War" by Sun-Tzu. Please
feel free to post your comments on this trend in any of these blog
entries. A few weeks ago I blogged about a data breach involving data on
US veterans. Such a metric would lean toward treating database
administration as a service or help desk type of function. Time to sweep
all of these elected officials out of office and get some folks to
represent us who understand the importance of data privacy and security,
don't you think?
Some of the books are good, others not so much.
Unless you have established service level agreements it is unfair to
measure the DBA on response time. Just because a book is not listed here
does not mean that I don't like it.
Allegretti did not say when exactly the drive went missing except to
note that the package containing it was due back at the AICPA "toward
the end of February.
They were originally based on the relational model - but none of the
vendors implemented the model fully or completely accurately.
Of course, if they win, that is a huge number. That doesn't sound
unreasonable to me.
It is not just the VA, but many, many organizations that manage and
maintain information about their employees and customers. com - IT
Commandments?
It was on its way back to the AICPA via FedEx but failed to arrive.
The team will consist of professionals from IBM field and development,
from IBM Business Partners, from customers, and from the marketplace in
general. So precision must be important to us.
Of course, the best way to measure DBA effectiveness is to judge the
quality of all the tasks that they perform. So, you too, can research
and write an IBM redbook! I wrote about that in this blog under the
title More Data Stolen.
