It mentions that MIT is spending $2 million to comply with the act. (The article doesn't clarify how much of the work would have been done anyways.) It occurred to me that one project we could sponsor would be an investiagtion of how much money MIT spends each year just to comply with various government regulations. I remember an importaant MIT administrator telling me that the increase in the staff/faculty ratio over the past 2 decades is mostly due to the need to comply with various government regulations. This project would involve real work and research; thus, the best way would be to find a libertarian course 17 major and convince him/her to do the work as part of a class project/thesis/political science UROP. Are there any political scince majors in our group? If it turned out that MIT spends a lot of money to comply with needless government regulations, money that would otherwise be used to reduce tuition, then it would be a useful argument to use in reaching MIT students.
