In Wednesday's Tech, there is an article about MIT's efforts
to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. It mentions that
MIT is spending $2 million to comply with the act. (The article
doesn't clarify how much of the work would have been done anyways.) It
occurred to me that one project we could sponsor would be an
investiagtion of how much money MIT spends each year just to comply
with various government regulations. I remember an importaant MIT
administrator telling me that the increase in the staff/faculty ratio
over the past 2 decades is mostly due to the need to comply with
various government regulations.
This project would involve real work and research; thus, the
best way would be to find a libertarian course 17 major and convince
him/her to do the work as part of a class project/thesis/political
science UROP. Are there any political scince majors in our group?
If it turned out that MIT spends a lot of money to comply with
needless government regulations, money that would otherwise be used to
reduce tuition, then it would be a useful argument to use in reaching
MIT students.
	Any suggestion or comments?
