Spending cuts

It is sometimes argued that taxes may hurt the economy, but government
spending will help it, and I don't think this is true.  Every dollar spent by
the government goes to paying someone to either do nothing or to do something
that the "government" wants; the government is not a person, cannot be made
"happy", and while people may support some of these things the government is
(borrowing from the first chapter of Free to Choose) spending other people's
money on other people and thus not very efficiently.  Most of our taxes go to
pay people not to do something productive.
