One thing to consider here, though.  Gramm changed while *in* office, not to get
elected.  I don't see him changing his philosophy to get elected.  He seems to 
have committed himself to his recent beliefs by stating them loudly and clearly.
If he does back down, he can't go to far toward the socialist (I don't like 
calling social democrats liberal, after all libertarians are the true liberals) 
side, because a GOP congress will not allow him to get anything done.
