Much of this frankly, is unresolved legally. However, in the moral
sphere, I have no problem with the distribution in this case
because it was from a newspaper edition that is now out of print,
so no money is being deprived from them. Also, to generally get
old articles from newspapers, it is common to just xerox them at
libraries anyway.
If WSJ has some archive of material that it generally expects to
be compensated for (over and above the cost of operating the
archive itself) then I would have more of a problem with it.
Generally, if a newspaper edition is already a few days old, I
consider it morally fair game. I'd guess that, unless the WSJ or
the author is being deprived of some possible income, they would too.
