Handgun Control Inc. has web pages. One interesting feature of the
pages is the ability to post a message to a wall of comments they
have. When one types a message into a text window in their page (a
form), the new comment is apparently catted onto the "wall" html file.
( go to http://bianca.com/lolla/politics/handguns/handgun.html, then
click on "visit handgun control parlor" to see it).
Given my politics, it is not suprising that I made a post arguing
again the HCI position ( like the other 98% of the posters to the
wall...is there some correlation between gun-owning and web use?!?).
I was disapointed that the formatting was lost ( my .sig was
scrambled). It occured to me that I could probably include <pre> and
</pre> in a message, and thus begin to write a small bit of html code.
I carried this idea a bit further, and made another post, this one
with a very large point headline, a link out of the HCI page to a RKBA
(Right to Keep and Bear Arms) page, a pre-formatted sig block, etc.
Morals:
(1) If you're trying to convince people of a point, you may not want
to give your enemies the ability to argue against you, using your own
computational resources.
(2) If you're letting people add information to your pages, you may
not want to allow that information to be live html code that can be
interpreted by a viewer...or you may find your document subverted with
links to all kinds of other places.
I think the people at HCI need to read
(1) The Bill of Rights
(2) The HTML manuals
(3) Sun Tzu
