Relax, Seth. TEP won't be sending these guys any money. Yet.
Thing is, though, that they may become very useful in the
future, since fraternities are being subject to rather
frightening onslaughts. Last I heard there was ongoing litigation
to allow for a new interpretation of the PA ERA so as to ban
all single sex organizations, including fraternities.
The generally crass membership of houses all over the country is
getting fraternities in free speech battles all the time,
and TEP almost got in one last year with rebel-looking-for-a-cause
Joaquin Terrones last year.
MIT is generally Greek-friendly because they need the housing.
This could change.
Possible battles:
1. MIT policies forbids fraternities from discriminating during Rush Week.
Yet fraternity membership tends to be non-diverse, because
a. fraternities are usually only 40 members large.
b. the only qualification for a bid is that *we think a freshman would
fit in here*. Needless to say, this is rather an arbitrary
qualification, resulting in statistically aberant pledge classes.
This could start a flap.
2. Joaquin Terrones + Joe Powers.
'nuff said. They are a pain sometimes.
3. The gender issue.
IRF is a good card to keep handy.
As for their rightwinginess, should I dismiss the ACLU
for their left-leanings?
