Your example is well taken.  Mission Viejo in CA is (I think) another
example.  And in general, in CA, housing developers buy up huge tracts
of land and build everything (roads, parks, etc.) to go with the
houses.


Planning is not bad in general, only "public planning."  Sadly, most of
the lectures and projects I see posted at MIT's department are about
public planning applied to current cities and often government policy.
