After some hedging on the Romney v. Kennedy race -- despite
originally intending to vote for GOP candidate Romney -- I opted to
vote party line Libertarian. On any race where no Libertarian was
running, I voted anti-Democrat. If the Democrat ran unoppposed, I
abstained. Exception: instead of abstaining, I wrote Vernon Imrich in
for Congress Representative.
I think LP ballot status, visibility, etc., are more important
in the long run. No ruling hegemony can last forever, so when it does
collapse, the question is whom will be considered the alternatives to
that hegemony. So as to why I vote LP instead of GOP (as I did in '92
and expect to in '96)? Ironically, it's not so much the GOP's
position on social issues, but the GOP's reneging and backstabbing on
economic issues that makes it difficult for me to vote Republican.
The GOP of the future might be different; I'm willing to wait and see,
whatever the results of the '94 elections are. In the meantime, it's
the LP for me.
