		   MIT Libertarians Activism Update

NOW! NOW! NOW! NOW! NOW! NOW! NOW! NOW! NOW! NOW! NOW!

NOW is the time to make a difference in the upcoming November 8 elections!
There are only 3 weeks left to the big day. In that time we can have a
large impact for the most minimal of efforts. To do it, we need your help.
We ask no more than one hour a week, about 10 minutes a day. Squeeze it
in between a few classes, or tack it on to a lunch, but please spend
the time to help. If you have more time, great! Here is what we have
planned:

o Postering crews - We have lots of "Dean Cook for Governor" 8.5x11"
flyers as well as "Ballot Question Voter Guides" that need to be
put up around campus, stuck in car windsheilds along Mass Ave and
Mem. Drive, and in the MIT parking lots. Wherever you work or
live on campus, chances are there are poster boards and cars parked
only a few minutes away. Wouldn't it be easy to just take your
pre-printed flyers out to lunch with you and stick a bunch on some
of those boards and cars on your way out? Ten minutes a day should
	cover about 25 flyers.

o Sign Holders - On election day, and at other times we are looking for
people to hold up signs of support for a candidate. There is a
polling booth right here on campus on election day. We could make
a morning, or afternoon out of the event. Doing this bunches
all your activism time up at once, so you can get it out of the
	way if you prefer.

o Attendance - We need all of you to come to the events we will be
having in these last weeks before the election. Dean will be on
campus to give a speech in about a week (see follow-up post).
Simply going to this, and bringing your friends, would be a big
help. We need warm bodies at such events. And you'll have
probably your only chance to talk real politics with an actual
	candidate for Governor.

Don't these things sound reasonable? They take so little time and have
quite a bit of impact. Please contact me or "libertarians-officers@mit.edu"
and tell us what you plan to do. Flyers can be picked up in my office
in room 5-329B, email me first and I'll meet you there any time. Other
activities can be set up by phone as well. You can try to call me at
x3-0050 or at 876-3887.

As a bonus, we are planning an "election night gala" to be held either on
campus somewhere, at a member's house, or in conjunction with the MA LP.
Everyone who participates in the campaign, even just by showing up at the
speech next week, is welcome. Those who have put up the most flyers, or
spent the most time helping out will recieve special awards! (I will be
tracking this). These will include books from CATO, LFB, and other
libertarian sources, LP bumper stickers, buttons, tapes, and other
politically oriented merchandise (we will NOT be dumping old '94 campaign
extras on you, these are reserved for those who did nothing to help).

I purposely did not ask for help any earlier than this. We need only one
concentrated push for three weeks and that is all. I know we're all very
busy at MIT, but think about it. We're talking three hours, over three
weeks for an entire campaign! Do you complain about how things are?
Does the political situation disturb you? For an hour a week you can
sleep better at night knowing that you did what you could, knowing that
YOU made a difference. If not you, who? If not now, when?
