Hi,
Earlier someone asked "what are the alternatives to military intervention
that stop the human rights violations in Haiti?" (I am paraphrasing,
but you get the idea.)
I think the point is that this is simply not the US's problem. What,
as Dan Quayle said recently, are our "vital interests" in Haiti that
justify the shedding of American blood? I don't see any. I don't
see any reason for the US to expend significant resources to straighten
out the situation there. (This is not to say that I approve of the junta.
Or to say that if I had a solution that I would keep it to myself.)
I just don't feel the need to ask the original question. Until someone
tells me why Haiti is important, I am not going to worry about it.
