Thanks to everyone who supplied the info about the Globe's
email address. Here is what I submitted:

I was pleased to read the article "Cities to carry part of costs in
anticrime bill" (Aug. 27). The article's analysis revealed that the
crime bill comes nowhere near fully funding the 100,000 police
officers trumpeted by the Clinton administration, and that some police
officers will never be hired due to the inability of local governments
to supply their share of the necessary funding. The article also
pointed out that pistols, not the assault weapons banned by the crime
bill, are the guns most often involved in crime. I admire the Globe
for revealing the serious flaws in the crime bill; I only wonder why
the Globe waited until after the Congressional debate and voting
before publishing its analysis. The Globe's fine journalism usually
exposes politicians' lies in a timely manner.
