We can do a lot to kill Klinton right now by calling/faxing reps and
urging them to oppose the next "rule" vote on the crime bill as well
as the bill itself. This will have two good effects:
1) The crime bill that does pass will be less intrusive
2) The delay will hurt health care's chance of passage by delaying it
until the crime bill is passed.
If Clinton actually looses the crime bill altogether it could be
a major blow to any health care bill and to his presidency. Now is
the time to call if there ever was one. We've got to play the R's
off the D's like Iraq vs. Iran. If we're REALLY lucky they'll all
loose :)

The best thing we can do right now:
1) CALL AND FAX YOUR CONGRESSIONAL REPS. Tell them to oppose any Crime Bill
that contains pork (social programs) and/or a gun ban.
2) If your reps are Republicans, insert a paragraph similar to the following
in your fax: "I'm a member of a good-sized group of Internet-using
Republicans. We were all quite angry over the 'defection' of the eleven
Republicans who voted in favor of the rule on the Crime Bill. Many of us have
written to the RNC and asked that election funds be cut off to these people.
I'll keep you updated as to the outcome."
Hopefully, this will help keep more Republicans in line the next time we have
a vote. If we can "turn" all eleven of the defectors, we can offset some of
the Dem arm-twisting. BTW, RNC stands for Republican National Committee.
3) Call and fax the following Republicans who voted in favor of the rule on
the Crime Bill:

All of these numbers were tested on Sunday 08/14, and all worked except for
those with (??) in the margin. These fax machines may be off for the weekend,
or perhaps have been moved to other numbers.
4) Call/fax the Republican National Committee. Send your fax to Haley
Barbour, Republican National Committee, at fax: 202-863-8820, phone
202-863-8500.
POLITELY complain about the eleven "Republicans" mentioned above. Tell them
you're outraged that the GOP is giving money to these "RINOs" (Republican In
Name Only). Request the GOP cut off their funds for the Fall '94 elections.
You may want to CC a copy of your letter to your rep by fax.
5) By Friday, August 16, fax your senators. Tell them to support a filibuster
on the Crime Bill.
You may also want to fax Senator Larry Craig of Idaho, who has indicated that
he'll support a filibuster if the bill makes it to the Senate. You can reach
him at fax: (202) 224-2573. Let him know how much you appreciate his efforts.
We're a long way from getting out of the woods, everyone. We have to fight
like hell, and it's now or never.
