IMHO, the workstation owner should be able to choose (with sufficient
warnings) to completely override vendor software, if the athena subset
is compatible.  That is, if I buy, say, an RS/6000, I should be able
to completely replace the vendor X11 system, so that third party apps
will use my xterm and my shared libs, etc.
