Next meeting: September 22, 1:30pm (!?!) in E40-316
Our regular meeting time doesn't look good on September 22. Is 1:30pm
alright with everybody?
We agreed that we need to start getting some sort of timeline to roll
out layered Athena. It's been taking too long.
Going with a platform not currently in the clusters has at least three
advantages:
1. Opens up a new market
2. Makes it easier to set freeware-type expectations
3. Solves third-party software issue for now
We decided to go ahead with the HP, announcing a beta test on October
11. Feel free to critique this draft timeline:
this month: alpha-test HP port, get docs ready
Oct 11: announce beta test
end of term: gather feedback
IAP: analyze feedback. make decision re. other platforms
Other issues discussed
- version skew between clusters and layered Athena
- should the software force users to register?
