Never mind; John explained to me what's going on with NEED_SOCKETS.
For the record, the idea is that files which need OS-specific socket
include files included #define NEED_SOCKETS before they include
"k5-int.h". This will cause the include files to include whatever the
appropriate header files are for that platform.
