actually, ignore that.  Use /mit/watchmaker/foolib/libc_mp.a (vax & mips only
for the moment), by saying
make EXTRA_LOAD_FLAGS="/mit/watchmaker/decmipslib/libc_mp.a" (mips)
make EXTRA_LOAD_FLAGS="/mit/watchmaker/decmipslib/libc_mp.a -Z" (vax)

Then when the program exits it generates mprof.data, which you process with
/mit/watchmaker/foobin/mprof.
