   The released version.  I generally only use the snapshot for informative
   purposes (you can imagine doing a vendor import with all of the changes
   that I've made every week would tend to suck :-) ).

FYI, we've made significant changes to the shared library build system
since the 1.0 release.  So the shared library build system is much
better than the 1.0 release, but it's also very *different*.  Given the
current instabilities caused by proposed changes to the header files,
using the snapshots for deployment purposes probably isn't a good idea.

Unfortunately, trying to backpatch the new shared library build system
into the 1.0 release is also rather non-trivial.  Tom, you want to
comment on how much work that would be?
