We have had a similar experience. In the Kerberos Interoperability
Walkthrough on the Microsoft NT5 beta website they claim to support
DES_CBC_MD5 and DES_CBC_CRC, however neither of these seem to work. We
tried following the procedure in the walkthrough, but it didn't help
     :-(

Has anybody tried talking with the KDC from the NT 5.0 beta1?

We've only been able to figure out that the only supported etype is
128 and it's rather unclear what algorithm and string-to-key that is.
It's not one of the most obvious combinations of MD5, MD2, RC2, and
RC4.

(Apart from that, it's rather prone to crashing when it receives an
unexpected packet and then it wants to reboot the machine :-( )
