Unfortunately this is an artifact of the ancient version of sendmail
that the MIT mailhubs run.  There is talk about migrating the kerberos
lists to a majordomo server or something suchlike soon to prevent this
sort of lossage, especially because the MIT postmasters are reluctant
to use any other sendmail.
