We run our production KDCs on RHEL5 right now, and probably will for the foreseeable future, so this is definitely important to us. Here are the versions available on RHEL 5:

libevent 1.4.13 is available from RedHat.
libev 4.03 is available from EPEL (which is RedHat, but not officially supported in RHEL)
glib 1.2.10 is available from RedHat.

What features of libevent 2 are you using that aren't in libevent 1? We migrated our production KDCs off of Solaris 9 just earlier this year, so there are definitely big customers out there running KDCs on older platforms.
