This is really interesting.  I strongly recommend that you post a description to the krbdev@mit.edu list, since the problem appears not to be mod_auth_kerb itself.

As a possible workaround you might try jimmy-ing configure to build/use mod_auth_kerb's own spenego code instead of relying on krb5's built-in gssapi implementation.
