I have just completed compiling and installing Version 5 beta 2 on a
sun3 without the existence of the Version 4 code. I ran into a
few dependency problems in the makefiles that you might be
interested in:
1. admin/convert cannot link if the v4 libraries -lkrb and
-lkdb do not exist. To remedy this, I just took convert
out of the SUBDIRS list in admin/Imakefile. But you may
want to create some define that appears in config/Project.tmpl
which would allow a person to say he didn't want v4
support.
2. kadmin/kpasswd would not link until I put KRB4LIB into
the libraries list in kadmin/kpasswd/Imakefile.
I also had a problem installing the binaries. I defined a root directory
other than /, so the following directories did not initially exist:
man
man/man1
man/man8
include
include/krb5
include/krb5/asn.1
admin
bin
lib
sbin
The install procedure should probably check for the existence of
these directories and create them if needed.
Finally, I had a quick question to ask you about setting up
/etc/services. The documentation currently does not mention anything
about what to add to this file to make things run (or if there are
any defined port numbers). What entries do I need to make and
are there specific port numbers I should be assigning?
Thanks for your help,
Robert Karsten
