Hi Ted,
I've found that the version of K5-B5 that I'm using must be
an older one; it's tar file is only 8 Meg where as the current one
in pub\dist\950505 is 12 Meg (src). I was very glad to find your notes in
the install.ps file re incompatibilities. The gethostbyname() bug for
solaris 2.3 is what the problem is.
This bug shows itself in the last line of starting the server/kerberos
.
.
Master key entered.
Current Kerberos master key version is 1

So, I'll update our compiler from 2.5.8 to 2.7.2 and solaris from 2.3
to 2.5 and then things should run a lot better. The "kinit: Principal
unknown (kerberos)" bug was secondary; I could start the server with no
krb.conf file (default) but the default starting never knew that it didn't
know it's own fully qualified domain name.
