(nonurgent) simple client fails

On starkiller, the simple client fails; seems to be breaking when it tries to
use the loopback interface (it works if it's not on the local machine). Work-
around is to compile it with BROKEN_STREAMS_SOCKETS defined. (Starkiller is
a Sparc5 running mostly athena default :)
