Symlinking problems that have been observed....

On a netbsd machine, I was able to reproduce the problem reported where
the lib directory winds up with symlinks for the various libraries going
to themselves.

If you use make in the lib directory, all works, but if you use make
from the top level you lose. 

The problem is solved if gmake is used. (i.e. the netbsd make is
broken). 

This should go in the install notes.
