earlier this week, the open software foundation announced that they
accepted kerberos ("with HP extensions," presumably these are the
extensions proposed as part of the DEcorum technology submission) as
the authentication technology to be offered as a part of their
Distributed Computing Environment.

Also, the May 14, 1990 issue of Digital Review contains the following
statement in an article on the Sun Open Network Computing (ONC)
starting on page 9.

"Sun officials also announced future enhancements to the Network File
System. The enhancements will include higher performance through the
increased use of parallelism, added security features such as the
support for the Kerberos authentication technology, simplified network
administration features and greater scalability through local disk
   caching."

for more information on these announcements, please contact the open
software foundation or sun microsystems directly.
