I just spent 6.5 hours on an initial port of NetBSD's k5login to 
IRIX, a SYSV based system...I think I have done it an a portable way,
and I run the same version of Linux as you at home, so there is a good chance
I will try it on Linux.  Telnet works now ;) 

It should be ready for real users to test in about a week.
