Just done this :-)  Took a bit of stuffing around.

I'm afraid that I don't know much about our kerberos setup, other than it is
version 5 with supposed version 4 backward compatibility thrown in (kerberos
is handled by our "security" section).  If you have any particular
questions, about the kerb side of things, then I can forward them to our
bods who administer that stuff.

On the 1600 side however, we needed to get a version 6 image file.
-r--r--r--   1 root     other     665600 Feb 16 10:52 xpcs00s.sys
and this is:
MAXserver V6.0S6 Rom 440000 HW 00.00.00 Lat Protocol V5.2

Then we needed to do a
define server kerberos five enabled
define server kerberos password port 749

After that, password changing worked, but the people who had version 4
kerberos passwords couldn't login.  So much for the backward compatibility.
We just upgraded them to version 5, and things went ok.
