I'm not sure what the error is, but I can answer the second question.
You cannot telnet to ports 88, 749, or 750 because krb5kdc doesn't
listen to those ports in TCP.  It only opens UDP ports, and you can't
telnet there.

Are you sure that you are getting a good connection between the client
and the server when you try?  What happens if you telnet to the
sserver port on the server?  Does that work?  Do you have a keytab?
Do you have tickets?
