Ok, another hard number:
www.mit.edu accepts about 14,000 unauthenticated httpd connections per
hour on a sparc 5, peak.
Given that, I'd say that a sparc 5 would probably be fine for your kdc,
and a sparc 20 would have spare cycles :-)
(I keep forgetting how fast computers are nowadays. And I'm not even
that old :-)
